Rawtherapee vs darktable 201811/10/2023 I use RawTherapee mainly, but once in a while, I've tried DarkTable too. It's a shame people do not realize how great these programs are but simply see they are free and assume they are not worth anything. There are a myriad of free and open source programs that benefit photographers interested in investing in learning how to use them. Free tools like Blender are really mature because enough people use them. Hopefully, we will get more participation on this! Look at the Video editing landscape. The developers have done their work, and now its time for us users to create presets etc., for the same. I guess now its the time people can start adopting it. Plugins, Presets etc., are created when people start using the software. That said, its really amazing what this can do, and its free and open source. If you are new to it, its easy to get overwhelmed This is same as previous version of lightroomīusy UI - Need a dumbo mode. The pp3 (Profile files) are plain text which means anybody can write apps to manipulate themīatch processing images is slower than lightroom (About 1/2X). Photographers can really help here as more adoption leads to better ecosystem Presets : Again, massive library in lightroom Maybe I am not trying enoughĬlarity : Again, have to look how to achieve the effect Sharpening and Local sharpening : Again, this is very good and at PARĬould not find comparable DeHaze. For most users (including Astro) it will be enough I would say its 90% of where lightroom is. Not hereĪuto Levels : Much more customizable than LRĬolor : Far richer than LR with stuff like Channel mixer built in Lightroom requires lots of hoop jumping to get rid of red cast in ~700nm IR images. White Balance range : I can work with IR easily as the white balance range is simply very wide. I was simply blown away how much the tool has improved in the past two years. I picked up Rawtherapee (Among others) to try out. Slowly getting annoyed with the "Rent seeking" model of software, I decided to try some other paid and free stuff.
